The Synopsis of “Ishq Zahe Naseeb”

So basically Hum TV describes it as:

Ishq Zahe Naseeb talks about split personality disorder. Zahid Ahmed is depicting a male character suffering from Dissociative identity disorder (DID). This a psychological condition where in a person experiences two or more personality states taking control over the person. While the teasers have piqued our curiosity, making it into out must-watch list.

The Good Points of “Ishq Zahe Naseeb”

This drama deals with a very sensitive subject matter: mental health. Here in Pakistan, mental health is not really a priority of anyone. We all treat it as if there is no issue; it has become somewhat of a taboo. People who get treated for mental health issues are considered weak and outright weird. This drama tries to portray the serious consequences of this attitude and showcase one of the mental illnesses.

Plot

Overall I enjoyed the plot and its direction. It was fun and interesting and not like a typical romantic drama. The ending was extremely satisfying and this drama is definitely one of the best I have watched.

Acting

The acting from most of the actors is superb. Excepting some of them even the minor cast is well-developed and multidimensional. Zahid Ahmed and Yumna Zaidi each pull off their roles extremely well. It is a pleasure and a thrill to watch their performance.

Another awesome part of this drama is the music. The music is amazing, it gave me actual chills down my spine.

The Bad Parts

The drama “Ishq Zahe Naseeb” was fun to watch, and I have few complaints. However, the writing of the drama at times feels really kind of weird, rushed in some places while really slow in others. The writer cannot seem to be able to master pacing or buildup properly.

Storyline

Likewise, the Drama consists of two parallel storylines and one of them is kind of bland while the other is way too jam-packed. The writing would have been better served by making both storylines equally engaging. Although I like and enjoy Sonia Hussain, she failed to convince me that she was in love with Zahid Ahmed’s character. She is a great actor, so this is probably the fault of the rushed pace and the direction.

Script

The script had some very unnecessary additions to it that add nothing substantial to the story. One example is the prophecy given in the beginning; it makes sense by the end, but is just not needed. The writer failed to concisely and clearly portray the mental illness. He overdramatized and dragged the mystery on so much that it became very confusing at times.  If you want to watch a drama where mental illness is portrayed extremely well, watch the Korean drama “Kill me, Heal me.”

Overall Thoughts

It is a realy good drama and I would recommend watching it.

I rate this show an 8/10.
