Chapt 1 : Accidents; contd.
This accident also happens generally with the children. In previous posts we have also discussed scenarios If Something Goes in the Eye or If Water Goes Into the Ear. While playing with coins or other small object children normally put the things in their mouth without noticing. Then sometimes they try to swallow it or sometimes it is stuck in the throat while they are trying to take it out. Sometimes while eating food they put too much in their mouth and then it is stuck in the throat. In this situation child gets very upset and his/her mouth gets red and eyes start watering.
What to do?
If an object is stuck in the throat then ask the child to open his mouth and try to see inside, If the object could be seen from the outside then use a tweezers to pull out that object. If it is not possible then do the following:
- Hold the child from both legs and turn him upside down and ask someone to slap him between the both shoulder blades. This will either send the object in the stomach or it will come out. If the object goes into the stomach do not worry, as it will come out with the excreta. If the object is in the mouth take it out of child’s mouth with hand and ask the child to lie down for a while.
- In Case the above mentioned method does not work then try to push the thing inside with a finger, the stuck object will go in the stomach.
- If the object goes into the stomach there is nothing to worry. The object will come out with the excreta. If you think that the object can be dangerous for the stomach then give the child one spoon full of castor oil . This will help clean the stomach through loose motions.
If a fish bone or some other bone is stuck in the throat try to pull it out with a tweezers but if it is not possible then take a big piece of bread and dip it in ghee and ask the child to eat it. His will help the bone to go inside the stomach.
If all this does not work then go to a doctor and do not risk the life of child.
