Whole Wheat Bread Recipe

This whole wheat bread recipe took me a long while to perfect. I’m one of those people who have made countless bricks of dough in the name of bread. So, if you’re like me, this is a super simple, yet authentic bread recipe. 

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour ½ kg
  • Salt 1 tsp.
  • Sugar 1 tsp.
  • Yeast 1 tbsp.
  • Water 1-4 cups
  • Ghee 2 tbsp.
  • Yogurt 3 tbsp.
  • ½ tsp baking soda

Recipe for Whole wheat bread

  1. Warm up ¼ cup water to 35 degrees Celsius. Into it, add the yeast and 1 tsp. of sugar. 
  2. Let it sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes, or until it bubbles up and starts foaming. 
  3. In a large bowl, combine the salt, the wheat flour, 1 tbsp. Ghee, yogurt and baking soda. Make a well in the center. 
  4. Add the yeast mix in the center of the well and let sit for 5 minutes.
  5. Mix together with 2 cups of water to form a soft dough.
  6. Knead until the dough stops being sticky (at least 10 minutes).
  7. Cover with a warm and damp washcloth and let rise for two hours. 
  8. After the required time, the dough should have doubled in size, if not give it another hour.
  9. Knead the dough again for 2 mins and form into a loaf for your loaf tin (9x4in.).
  10. Grease the loaf tin with the remaining ghee and put in your dough. 
  11. Cover with the damp washcloth and let rise for 30-45 mins. 
  12. Bake in an oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  13. Let cool on a wire rack before service.
