This whole wheat bread recipe took me a long while to perfect. I’m one of those people who have made countless bricks of dough in the name of bread. So, if you’re like me, this is a super simple, yet authentic bread recipe.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour ½ kg
- Salt 1 tsp.
- Sugar 1 tsp.
- Yeast 1 tbsp.
- Water 1-4 cups
- Ghee 2 tbsp.
- Yogurt 3 tbsp.
- ½ tsp baking soda
Recipe for Whole wheat bread
- Warm up ¼ cup water to 35 degrees Celsius. Into it, add the yeast and 1 tsp. of sugar.
- Let it sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes, or until it bubbles up and starts foaming.
- In a large bowl, combine the salt, the wheat flour, 1 tbsp. Ghee, yogurt and baking soda. Make a well in the center.
- Add the yeast mix in the center of the well and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Mix together with 2 cups of water to form a soft dough.
- Knead until the dough stops being sticky (at least 10 minutes).
- Cover with a warm and damp washcloth and let rise for two hours.
- After the required time, the dough should have doubled in size, if not give it another hour.
- Knead the dough again for 2 mins and form into a loaf for your loaf tin (9x4in.).
- Grease the loaf tin with the remaining ghee and put in your dough.
- Cover with the damp washcloth and let rise for 30-45 mins.
- Bake in an oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Let cool on a wire rack before service.
