Nihari Recipe

Nihari is a typical and most popular Pakistani dish served usually at breakfast. Although people do serve it at every dinner, lunch, or wedding function. It is a mild flavored thick curry made with Desi Masala ingredients. Wheat flour is used to get the perfect thickness of Nihari. Nihari  can be garnished with ginger slices and served with fried onions, lemon, green chilies, and Naan. Many local restaurants and highway restaurants are serving Nihari all over Pakistan.

Ingredients

1/2 kg meat (It can be cooked with any kind of meat like chicken, beef or mutton)

2 medium sized onions (sliced)

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

3tsbp ginger, garlic paste

2 tbsp. sounf

½ tbsp. sonth

1 tsp. garam masala powder

1 tsp. red chili powder

1 tsp. salt

2 cup ghee

1 liter of water

Method

  1. Cut meat in 4-5  pieces. Use meat with bones.
  2. Heat up ghee and fry onion until brown,
  3. Add ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, salt  and grounded soinf and sonth with half cup of water
  4. Saute for one minute and then add meat and cook on medium fire until the meat changes colour.
  5. Now add 1 ½ liter of water and close the lid of pressure cooker
  6. When the wistle blows cook on medium heat for 45 minutes,
  7. Open the pressure cooker and add half a liter of water;
  8. Now in a separate bowl mix wholw wheat flour in one cup of water;
  9. Pour this mixture slowly in the cooker and keep stirring, cook it for 15 minutes on low flame.
  10. Delicious Nihari is ready to serve
  11. garnish with ginger slices and serve.
