Kofta Curry Recipe


It is not a common Pakistani dish but everyone likes it. It is delicious and is especially liked by children.  There are various recipes available on internet and in cookbooks but this one is very simple and can be made quickly.


  • Minced meat ½ kg (you can use any minced meat i.e.  Chicken, beef, mutton etc.)
  • Onions 2 (finely chop one of them)
  • Tomatoes  2 normal size
  • Ginger paste 1 table spoon
  • Garlic paste 1 table spoon
  • Dry coriander powder 1 table spoon
  • Egg 1
  • Bread slice 1
  • Red chili 2 teaspoons
  • Salt 2  teaspoons
  • Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
  • Ghee or oil 2 serving spoons
  • Water 1 liter

Method for making the koftas

  1. In a bowl mix minced meat, chopped onions , 1 teaspoon red chili powder, half of garlic and onion paste, 1 teaspoon coriander powder and ½ teaspoon garam masala powder ;
  2. Mix thoroughly the egg in a small bowl and add it in the minced meat;
  3. Then crush the bread slice into bread crumbs and mix it with the minced meat;
  4. Now make small balls of minced meat and keep them aside;

Making Curry

  • Put remaining onion, tomato,  in a grinder and grind it well.
  • Put an open mouthed pan on medium heat and add ghee or oil and the ground tomatoes and onion,
  • Saute for 5 minutes and then add ginger and garlic paste and remaining ingredients;
  • Saute for 5 minutes and add one liter of water;
  • When the water is boiling add koftas very carefully so that they do not break;
  • Let it cook for half hour, the koftas are ready to serve;
