Cabbage Salan Recipe


Cabbage is used in Salads all over the world but in Pakistan and India it is cooked to serve with roti or white rice as well. The recipe to cook cabbage is very easy and it makes delicious dish. Some people also cook it with chicken, mutton or beef. The recipe I am sharing here is a very simple one and can be easily made with very few ingredients.


½ Kg cabbage

2 onions chopped finely

1 tomatoe chopped in cubes

2 large size green chills (finally chopped)

1 tspoon garlic paste

1 tspoon ginger paste

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

¼ teaspoon turmeric powder

¼ tspoon black seed (kalonji)

Ghee or oil ½ cup

1 cup of water


Wash and chop the cabbage finely

In a cooking pan put the ½ cup of ghee and put it on medium flame;

  1. Add chopped onions and keep stirring so that the onions do not burn;

When the onions are light brown add chopped tomatoes and green chilies, garlic and ginger paste;

Then add salt, red chili and turmeric;

Keep stirring until the tomatoes are mashed and everything is mixed;

Lower the heat to the minimum, add chopped cabbage and sauté for 5 minutes ,

Now add 1 cup of water and black seed and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes;

If the cabbage is not dry yet then cooks on high flame and dry all the water;

Very delicious and tasty cabbage  is ready to serve. Serve it with roti or boiled rice.
