Dal Mash Recipe – (White Lentils – (Black Gram Skinned and Split))

When talking about Pakistani food, we cannot help but include the staple Dal Mash  Recipe. It is one of the classics, simple yet elegant. Dal Mash recipe is cooked in almost every household in Pakistan and it not only tastes brilliant but is incredibly simple to make. Here is the Best Dal Mash Recipe I have ever come across.

Ingredients

  • ¼ Kg mash ki dal
  • Ghee or oil 2 serving spoons
  • ½ liter of water
  • Two medium sized onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 table spoon ginger paste
  • 1 table spoon garlic paste
  • 1 normal sized tomato (chopped)
  • 4 green chili (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon red chili
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • Green coriander ½ cups (chopped)
  • Garam masala powder ½ teaspoon

Method

  1. Soak the mash dal for 2-3 hours in water;
  2. Put the pressure cooker on the fire and add ghee and onions;
  3. Sauté till the onions are light brown;
  4. Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté for 30 seconds;
  5. Add salt, red chili turmeric and tomato and sauté for 1 minute;
  6. Add soaked mash dal and sauté for a minute (drain the water completely before adding)
  7. Add ½ liters of water and close the lid of pressure cooker;
  8. When the whistle blows cook for exactly three minutes;
  9. Open the pressure cooker, add the green coriander, green chilis and garam  masala and cook for 3 minutes on medium flame; keep stirring to avoid burning;
  10. Tasty dal mash is ready, serve with fresh roti and enjoy
