Reach for the Light

Mercurial Creatures – a poem

Hi, everyone, I’m posting after a while. There’s a lot going on in life right now so… Anyway, I’m starting a series of poems on emotions, and I have written a couple already, but yesterday when I sat down to write my latest, I realised that I wasn’t feeling jut one thing, it was a whole garbage bag of emotions. So I wrote what I felt, hope it makes sense.

The load lightens more easily

When surrounded by affection,

The wisp of attention,

An act of love.

Oh, human, human we are,

Lost in bedevilment, and

Covered in emotional scar

After scar.

These afflict us easily,

We tumble from one to the next,

Sometimes we recover swiftly,

Or avoid and deflect.

In one day,

We rise to heights unseen,

And then plummet into the obscene,

Realms of despair.

That is our condition,

A devilry most profound,

Mercurial creatures we are,

Sometimes, catlike, at times hound.
