A plane takes off with 81 passengers and lands with 82.

“Good afternoon passengers. This is your captain speaking. First I’d like to welcome everyone on Rightwing Flight 86A. We are currently cruising at an altitude of 33,000 feet at an airspeed of 400 miles per hour. The time is 1:25 pm…”

All was peaceful and calm and the afternoon flight from Islamabad, Pakistan to London England was well under when suddenly, the captain’s announcement was interrupted.

“Ksschkkk, hiss…” the hiss of static echoed over the plane speakers.

“Hey, what’s that?!” yelled a male passenger. All over, the passengers were looking around in puzzlement and trepidation.

Once again, the plane echoed with the sound of static. People were startled and several passengers rose out of their seats in alarm.

Then the hostess’ voice rings out, “Please remain calm and be seated. The planes’ PA system appears to have malfunct-”. She was interrupted by a loud abrupt clanking, shrieking sound. The plane also started shaking. The passengers were starting to panic in earnest with screams and exclamations rising all over the plane.

Those passengers near the windows suddenly pointed out, there smack dab in the middle of the clear blue sky, dotted with fluffy clouds – was a blotch of intense black. As they watched the black shape grew bigger and soon was larger than the front of the plane.

Emergency protocols were initiated and the captain’s voice was projected over the plane:  “Ladies and gentlemen, we appear to be facing some turbulence, please stay calm and follow emergency protocols, listen for instructions from the cabin crew and remain seated at all times.”

With a sudden lurch, the plane seemed to be plunged into darkness.
