Top 5 Beauty YouTube-rs Who are Worth Watching

So this is a little bit of a different style beauty article for me. I’m not giving you tips this time but rather sharing a list of the beauty YouTuber’s that have actually taught me a lot about how to do makeup. If you have ever watched YouTube makeup tutorials, you will know that most of them may be fun to watch, but they are not really all that helpful with actually doing your real life makeup on a day to day basis.

This is especially true for me, since, although I love makeup and dressing up, I don’t do it all that often. Even when I attend my classes or out with my friends I tend to wear very little to no makeup. Usually I only wear makeup when it’s a special occasion (or sometimes I put on full glam at home, just for fun, and then take it off after an hour or so). But basically the point here is that most beauty Guru’s do ‘dime-a dozen’ makeup looks that are really too heavy for real life.

As for the makeup reviews, I just can’t relate with any of them usually because I do not have the money or inclination to buy a $50 Foundation (or a $25 Concealer etc. etc.) I usually just buy whatever I can find that has a reasonable price.

Keep in mind, this is not a list of the Youtuber’s I enjoy watching the most or my favourites at all, but rather those that have taught me and increased my skill level in applying make-up. But conversely also keep in mind that I do admire and appreciate every YouTuber mentioned.

# 1 Lisa Eldridge

So Lisa, is a celebrity makeup artist who also makes Youtube videos. Unlike some others (*cough* Charlotte Tilbury*cough*) her videos don’t feel like an Ad campaign for beauty products and she goes into great detail about how to apply makeup and why you apply certain makeup in certain areas, she also explains how to do her look on different face shapes and doesn’t just do a one look fits all thing (which is a pet peeve of mine).

I once recreated a Jaclyn Hill makeup Tutorial and although, when I had seen the look on her she looked magnificent, on me it just made my eyes look much smaller and it wasn’t a bad look, but it just didn’t enhance my features like it did hers, since I have small and slightly hooded Asian eyes.  Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to say that Jaclyn is a bad teacher or that her tutorial wasn’t good, just that the color scheme of the look didn’t really suit me.

On the other hand whenever I watch Lisa do a tutorial, she always explains why she does what she does and oftentimes I am able to adjust looks to suit my face better due to her advice. Case in point this video:

Here she does a No-makeup makeup look. It looks brilliant, and she teaches how to replicate it on your skin so well.

#2 KlairedelysArt

My God, I Love this woman’s creativity! If you ever want a look for Halloween, or a costume party, or even just a little bit of creative inspiration, she is the one to watch. Her tutorials are easy to follow (if you have a bit of artistic skill) and so wonderfully fresh and ingenious. It cannot be emphasised enough how much she actually awes and inspires me and really revives my love for makeup. Whenever I see one of her tutorial videos it makes me feel like I want to do makeup and that makeup is fun.

My favorite tutorial is this one.

#3 Wayne Goss

Wayne is one I follow due to his down-to-earth tutorials and great tips. He tends not to cake on makeup and teaches you to really get great looks. His makeup tips are really the absolute best. He is the one who taught me not to do contouring every day of my life, to spend time on blending my makeup properly and how not to cake up my foundation. I have also noticed that he is oftentimes gives sort of unconventional advice that almost always pans out amazingly.

This video of his really changed my makeup game and made me much better at makeup.

#4 Pixiwoo

She is a British Youtuber who really does unconventional and very interesting makeup looks. She always looks amazing and is not afraid to break makeup rules and go out of the box. She really gives me new ideas and tricks on how to do my makeup and her eye-shadow looks are to die for. Her makeup style is unique and refreshing and she often times does unexpected looks that are fun and beautiful. She is the one I go to for creative inspiration for everyday or special occasion makeup, since it is stuff I have rarely seen before. Her tutorials are also very easy to follow.

Check out these eye-shadow looks by her:

#5 Tati

Out of all the Youtuber’s mentioned above Tati is actually the one I watch most often, and the one I love best. I love her personality and actually find her videos so absorbing, it always seems like I am listening to a dear friend. I recommend her however, not because of her makeup tips, or her tutorials, but rather because she has really taught me a lot about cosmetics and cosmetic brands.

She is mostly a product review channel and she is the one who taught me the difference between matte and satin eye-shadows, liquid lips, glosses and lip-toppers. She taught what to look for when buying product and how to identify good makeup.  I learned a lot about different makeup formulations and what suits what skin type from watching her videos. Now, the reason that she is at the bottom of the list is because the products she mentions are usually not available in Pakistan or way too expensive, so her content is not really all that useful to me sitting here, but those of you in the US, Canada, Australia etc. can really benefit from her recommendations.

An honourable mention goes to Stephanie Nicole. Who also taught me a lot about cosmetics, but ended up not making the list because her videos are often very long, I tend watch Tati more often.

My opinion is just that, an opinion; do not take anything I say in this article as hard fact.
