So, another year passes. (Islamic year for all those confused.) I like greeting y’all with a poem, so I wrote this Eid al-Adha 2025 poem, although this one is not as cheery as last time. I was thinking about sacrifice, the root behind this Eid, when I wrote it, and my thoughts led me here.
Anyhow, I’ll sign off with my usual well-wishes to all of you, thanks for reading. I hope your Eid, as well as the rest of your year, is beautiful and happy, with success and simple joy around each corner. Stay blessed!
Poem: Sacrifice
Sacrifice.
What a white word
Etched in life—
in hearts of mortals;
Buried under currents
of torment.
Souls writhe
in joy pale-cast.
Shadows of sparklers
like lifeless fire
flash across flitting child faces,
on this day
of remembrance.
Celebration brings
another turn
to the forfeit,
in hope eternal,
lifts—
a carousel of children’s
gifts.
In corners of chapped lips:
pulls a soft smile,
of appreciation.
