This recipe is a recipes which is very common in Pakistani villages and eaten with relish. It is healthy and nutritious and I and my family like it very much. The green pumpkin has different names in Pakistan like kadoo, ghia and gol kaddoo. But it is a common vegetable so is easy to get in the market.
Ingredients
Dal chana or split black gram 250 grams
Green pumpkin ½ kg
Red chilli 1 tspn
Salt 1 tsp
Turmeric ¼ tspn
Garam masala powder 1 tspn
Coriander powder 1 tspn
Onion 1 large
Tomatoes 2 small
Green coriander ½ cup chopped
Green chili 2 chopped
Garlic paste 1 tbspn
Ginger paste 1tbspn
Ghee or oil ½ cup
1 liter water
Method
Soak dal chana for 1 hour in plain water
Peel, wash and chop kadoo in small pieces
Slice the onions in small slices
Chop the tomatoes in cubes
Now put a pressure cooker on medium flame and add oil and onion.
Fry the onion until light brown, add tomatoes, garlic and ginger paste, red chili powder, coriander powder , turmeric powder and saute for two to three minutes;
Add chopped kadoo and saute for 2 minutes, add the soaked dal chana and put 1 liter of water;
Now close the pressure cooker and when the wistle blows cook for 15 minutes;
Open the pressure cooker and stir thoroughly:
Now add garam masala powder and stir for one minute on low flame;
Garnish with green coriander and green chili and serve hot with naan, flat bread or rice.
