Todays’ post is gonna be a short flash fiction based on a story prompt I came across on the internet. It’s a children’s story about stars and I got my inspiration from Stardust (credit where credit is due).

The Star Switch

Each and every one of the stars and planets were gathered in the great hall. The hall shone with a bright glow and excited chatter filled the hall as everyone awaited the announcement. Finally, Sun stepped onto the stage at the front of the hall, standing high above the heads of everyone.

“Ahem.” Sun began, clearing out his throat. “As you all know, I, as the Supreme leader of the Galactic Council, decided this centuries’ Star feast would be held in the skies of Earth.” At this, a grinning young planet with deep blue skin and green-brown hair stepped forward and bowed to everyone. “Let’s have an awesome time everyone,” shouted Earth and the hall broke out in cheers.

“Ahem. Yes, yes, thank you for hosting us this time, Earth. Anyway, back to me, as I was saying, you will all be coming to Earth’s sky this time, the feast will have a number of events scheduled, and each star and its planets have been assigned a constellation…”

As Sun droned on and on, the rest of the stars and planets began to talk among themselves. “Where are you staying Mars?’ asked Sirius.

“As always, I’m stuck with Sun, right next to Earth.” sighed Mars. “As if being stuck with stuck-up Sun is not bad enough, Earth hasn’t shut up about the feast at all in the past two decades, she’s driving me nuts.”

“She’s always like that, you should know better by now.” said Procyon. “I’ve never seen her sit quietly, even when the feast was held in the skies of Pegasi. She’s always super excited.”

“Yeah, but I hoped, she’d act a little more mature this time.” sighed Mars.

“Buck up,” said Mercury, “I’ll be with you too.”

“Oh, alright.” said Mars, “Where will you be Procyon, Canis Minor like every time?”

“Seems like it,” said Procyon, “Sun always makes us stay in the same places every time anyways, I’m tired of it. Plus, Gomeisa and I are having a fight right now and I don’t want to stay with him.”

“Hey, I have an idea!” Sirius exclaimed, “Let’s switch places!”

“You guys, you know how Sun is, he has made it against the rules to change places and he will be very angry if we don’t follow them,” Saturn interjected in his deep voice.

“Oh, him and his stupid rules, when Methuselah was in charge, he never made us follow stupid rules like this,” burst out Procyon. Turning to Sirius he said, “Let’s do it!”

“Alright, do what you want, but I warned you, don’t blame me if anything goes wrong.”
