I Answer the Romance Readers Book Tag: Romance Novels and More…

Romance novels

Hi Everyone, today’s post is going to be a bit different, its about Romance Novels. I found this tag while browsing through some book blogs (specifically The Bibliophagist) and it seemed liked such fun that I wanted to write a post myself. If you want to read a few recommendations, check out my favorite books list! So without further ado, here goes:

WHAT AGE DID YOU START TO READ ROMANCE NOVELS?

I started reading romance novels mostly during my late teens about the age of 17. My interest has since tapered off and while I still enjoy a good romance, I don’t tend to read bucket loads of them, as I did then.

IF YOU COULD PICK ONE HERO TO MEET FROM YOUR FAVORITE ROMANCE NOVELS, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Um, to be honest romance novel heroes are not really all that inspiring or interesting to me, and I can’t think of a single one that I would really love to meet. I would rather meet heroes from epic fantasy or adventure books. If I had to choose however, I would pick Edward Cullen from Twilight. Yes, yes, I know you’re horrified and that this is such a teen dream response, but I have reasons: firstly because, like I said, most straight-up romance heroes are just kind normal, hot guys, and while there is nothing wrong with that, I am content to admire them from afar. Another reason is that when I read romance novels I always enjoy seeing the hero end up with the girl and I don’t wanna interfere with that. My reason for picking Edward specifically is because he is so different from the rest, a little more psychopathy and fantastic (in the sense that he is from a fantasy setting), enough that I would like to talk with him about the supernatural etc.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE ROMANCE AUTHORS AND WHY?

My favourite romance authors are:

  1. Judith McNaught; she writes amazing historical and contemporary romance and I have loved everything I read of hers.
  2. Julia Quinn: She is a straight up historical romance writer and I love her work.
  3. Susan Gabal: I love her Outlander series so much!

WHAT IS A FAVORITE ROMANCE NOVEL TO RE-READ?

Hmm, I don’t really know if this one deserves to be called a romance at all (if it is then it’s a very dark romance), but I love re-reading Wuthering Heights, every time I do I understand more and more layers.

WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO A NON-ROMANCE READER?

I would recommend Outlander, because it is not purely romance and has a lot of other stuff going for it, it should highly appeal to more mature readers. For teens, I’d go the Meg Cabot route with Boy Meets Girl.

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE: CONTEMPORARY, SUSPENSE, HISTORICAL AND WHY?

Historical all the way, I love being transported to ancient times and far off places.
