Beauty Tip #13: Black Tea Face Scrub

Black Tea Face Scrub

Do you suffer from clogged pores?

If you have clogged pores, too-large pores, blackheads, puffy skin, dry skin or hyperpigmentation; this scrub is for you. Previously I gave you a recipe for a super mild exfoliator in the form of a Rice Flour Scrub. This time, however, I am going to give you a recipe for a gentle yet grittier exfoliator – Black tea face scrub. This exfoliator is not nearly as mild as the other one and it has a much thicker grain. It is still gentle enough for sensitive skin but also exfoliates extremely well.

You already ought to know the importance of regular exfoliation, but using this Black tea face scrub has its own unique benefits. Firstly, it efficiently removes dead skin cells and deeply cleanses your skin. The Black Tea face Scrub clears out clogged pores and blackheads instantaneously. It also de-puffs and tightens skin making it firms and younger looking. The Black Tea face Scrub removes hyperpigmentation and brightens skin, leaving it looking smooth, supper and gorgeous.

The Ingredients

The Black Tea face Scrub is a little bit more complicated to make than my normal suggestions; it has four ingredients, each of which is crucial.

  • Black Tea leaves (fine grind – I use Lipton or Earl Grey)
  • Bentonite Clay
  • Gram Flour (Besan)
  • Turmeric Powder (Haldi)

All these ingredients work together to get a Black Tea face Scrub that not only looks great but feels great as well.

Why Black Tea?

The tea leaves have a lot of benefits when applied to the skin:

Fine Ground Black Tea

Fine Ground Black Tea

  • The tea reduces puffiness in the skin and from under your eyes.
  • Protects skin from premature aging and reduces wrinkles.
  • The tea is rich in antioxidants which are great for your skin.
  • It prevents and ameliorates skin damage from UV rays.
  • It has healing and collagen boosting properties.
  • Flushes out toxins from skin and leaves you with cleaner skin and fewer breakouts.
  • The tea contains Polyphenols and tannins which are linked to skin cell rejuvenation.

Why Bentonite Clay?

Bentonite Clay is very beneficial for the skin:

Bentonite Clay

  • Bentonite clay helps to clear the skin and unclog pores.
  • The Clay regulates the production of sebum, an excess of which is a direct cause of acne, blackheads and whiteheads.
  • The clay sucks out any toxins from your skin due to its strong negative electrical charge.
  • Contains many nourishing trace minerals like silica which make your skin healthier and softer.
  • Removes any inflammation, redness or acne scarring from the skin.
  • The clay possesses superb healing properties which help to minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
  • The clay helps maintain an even skin tone.

Why Gram Flour?

Gram flour or chickpea flour has many advantages when applied to the face:

  • Gram Flour contains Zinc which helps to fight infections and bacteria.
  • The fiber in the flour is blood sugar stabilizer; this keeps your face skin healthier and less prone to breakouts.
  • The flour absorbs excess oil and any toxins, leaving behind clean skin.
  • The flour has a very mild exfoliating effect which gives the black tea face scrub two kinds of grit particles; larger from the tea and smaller from the flour making it twice as effective.

People use gram four as base for tons of skin treatments and it has been a traditional face treatment for hundreds of years.

Why Turmeric Powder?

The Turmeric also gives many important benefits in this scrub:

Turmeric

Turmeric

  • It has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components that make your skin less pimply and uneven.
  • The turmeric powder has a healing agent called curcumin in it which decreases inflammation, oxidation, and heals any micro wounds on your face – such as those left from breakouts.
  • It has anti-bacterial properties.
  • Turmeric can prevent the formation of wrinkles and melanin.
  • It also promotes blood flow in the skin making the skin healthier, de-puffing it and clear build ups underneath the skin.

The Method

How to Make?

It is actually rather easy to make if you have the ingredient pre-prepped and on hand like I do, but if not you will have to go through a little bit of an involved process the first time around.

½ tsp. Bentonite clay (pre-soaked and blended)

¼ tsp. Black tea leaves (Fine grind – I use Lipton or Earl Grey)

½ tsp. Gram Flour

½ – 2 tsp. water

A pinch of Turmeric Powder

Directions

  1. Okay, so the process is that first you need to soak and blend your bentonite clay into a smooth paste that is easy to work with. I teach you how to do that in my Bentonite Clay mask post, if you need some directions. It is way easier to just pre-prepare a large batch and keep handy than trying to mix half teaspoons of the stuff by hand. Just trust me on this, I have tried it both ways and you don’t need the hassle of the second method.
  2. Next you have to mix the gram flour and turmeric and get them homogenized with enough water to get a smooth paste the consistency of toothpaste. This is just chucking the ingredients in a small bowl and mixing with a spoon.
  3. Next, either brew a cup of tea and save the tea leaves or soak the leaves in a teaspoon of boiling hot water, leave until they cool down.
  4. Strain the leaves and wash with water.
  5. Now add to the gram flour mix and add the clay as well.
  6. Mix well and your scrub is ready.

How to Use?

Just use the scrub like regular scrub, thoroughly massaging your skin and washing it off. Throw away leftovers; prepare a new batch every time you need one. Also do not scrub your face more than twice a week, which is bad for your skin.
