Top 5 Best Disney Movies Ever

Disney

Property of Walt Disney Studios

This list of Disney Movies is according to my personal opinions, feel free to contest them down in the comments. Usually I makeke top 10 lists, such as my list of Top 10 most anticipated movies. However, in this list I chose to include only 5 movies because I wanted to challenge myself to pick only my absolute faves. I am a massive Disney fan so mI revised this list about ninety thousand times… Finally I compiled it but it still hurts to leave out Tarzan, Peter Pan, Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin, all of which I adore.

#5 The Emperor’s New Groove

Uploaded by YouTube Movies

Synopsis taken from Rotten Tomatoes

“In a mythical mountain kingdom, arrogant, young Emperor Kuzco is transformed into a llama by his power-hungry advisor, the devious diva Yzma. Stranded in the jungle, Kuzco’s only chance to get back home and reclaim the high life rests with a good-hearted peasant named Pacha. Kuzco’s perfect world becomes a perfect mess as this most unlikely duo must deal with hair-raising dangers, wild comic predicaments, and — most horrifying of all – each other as they race to return Kuzco to the throne before Yzma tracks them down and finishes him off.”

My Thoughts

I think this is one of Disney’s most underrated films. I love Kuzco and the fact that at the start he is so arrogant and uncaring but ends up learning important life lessons and becoming a better person. This movie is so creative and wackily funny it never fails to crack me up. I even love the villain, Yzma tries to be devious but just ends up looking like a fool most of the time; yet she still has a darkly sinister edge to her. All the side characters are hilarious and just fantastic, I especially love the old people, they are really funny. I also love how each character progresses and develops.

The Emperor’s new groove doesn’t have the typical Disney drawing style, but I think the style suits the story very well. This was one of those movies that I didn’t end up watching until my teens, but when I did I loved it instantly. The mix of absurdity and seriousness is perfect and it is one of those comedies which leaves you happy and fulfilled. If you haven’t seen it, you should.

#4 Mary Poppins

Uploaded by TheWorldofTrailers

Synopsis

He Banks family’s children are insufferable and they attempt to get their father’s attention by sabotaging any nanny hired to look after them. After the latest nanny quits in a rage, Mary Poppins appears out of nowhere to apply for the job. Through a series of fantastical adventures she manages to teach the children to be good. They learn a lot, but their father is unhappy at their tall tales of magic. He takes them to his workplace to show them how the real world works.

My thoughts

I loved this film for both it’s whimsy and its life lessons. With each adventure the children learn more and Mary Poppins herself is so delightfully mysterious. One of my favourite characters is the chimney sweep, he is so wonderfully unique and quite enthralling to watch. The songs are fun and iconic as well. There is not much else I can say without spoilers, but the parents in this film are great.  The acting is also superb. All in all this film is a classic that should be watched by everyone.

#3 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Uploaded by Movieclips Classic Trailers

Synopsis taken from Rotten Tomatoes

“A tale of adventure set during the 17th Century in the Caribbean Sea. For the roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow, the crystalline waters of the Caribbean, like the high seas the world over, present a vast playground where adventure and mystery abound. But Jack’s idyllic life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa, steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the Governor’s beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann. Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Will Turner, joins forces with Jack to commandeer the fastest ship in the British fleet, the HMS Interceptor, in a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl.

The duo and their crew are pursued by Elizabeth’s betrothed, the debonair, ambitious Commodore Norrington, aboard the HMS dauntless. Unbeknownst to Will, there is a curse that has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead–when exposed to moonlight, they are exposed to living skeletons. The curse they carry can be broken, only if a once-plundered treasure is restored.”

My Thoughts

This movie is brilliant. Period. Before the existence of this film, pirates were not popular at all and afterwards… well everyone was obsessed with them.  This film has a great cast, the best of which is not necessarily the heroes, who are good but not as good as the supporting cast.  The supporting characters take this film from mediocre to great.

From Captain Jack Sparrow to the duos of pirates and duos of British sailors; the supporting characters are intriguing, funny, smart, attractive and magnetizing. The villain is also brilliant. Apart from the acting the story is well written and absorbing. Each of the characters plays their part superbly, making an adventure film that remains one of my favorites to this day.

#2 The Lion king

Uploaded by forgottentrailers

Synopsis taken from Rotten Tomatoes

“One of the most popular Disney animated musicals, The Lion King presents the story of a lion cub’s journey to adulthood and acceptance of his royal destiny. Simba (voiced first by Jonathan Taylor Thomas, then by Matthew Broderick) begins life as an honored prince, the son of the powerful King Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones). The cub’s happy childhood turns tragic when his evil uncle, Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons), murders Mufasa and drives Simba away from the kingdom. “

My Thoughts

This is one Disney’s Greatest Masterpieces, a film that still makes me laugh and cry when I watch it. By now I must have re-watched it about a hundred times, It is hands down one of my favourite films not only among Disney, but overall. The film strikes all the right chords, it makes me love the characters and sing along to the songs. The villain is so deviously and completely evil and his villain song is one of the best.

And who can ever forget “Hakuna Mattata”? This movie is iconic, entrancing, heartbreaking and wonderful.

#1 Mulan

Uploaded by YouTube Movies

Synopsis taken from Rotten Tomatoes

Disney’s cross-cultural retelling of a popular Chinese folk tale about a peasant girl who disguises herself as a man and takes her ailing father’s place in the emperor’s army turns the traditional fairy tale ending on its head. This time, the princess rescues the prince.

My Thoughts

Mulan is my favourite Disney film. I love the initiative of the hero and how she works to improve herself. I love that it has one of the most female empowering messages. . Also, I love that she goes back and that she turns down power and position to return to her family.  The songs in this films are some of the best ever written. Don’t tell me you have never sung “I’ll make a Man out of you”, to yourself.

I love the characters and Mushu is one of the best takes on a Dragon I have ever seen. The fact that Mulan almost single-handedly saves a country is one of the best endings ever. The film teaches great lessons throughout and is immensely entertaining while doing so. You feel so invested in the outcomes and struggles of the heroine. This is one of those films where the hero deserves to be the center of attention. Her journey from scared girl and lost girl to great warrior is awe-inspiring to watch.

That’s it Folks!

It was really hard to choose which films to include; treasure planet almost made it, but was beaten by The Emperor’s New Groove. Tell me your favourite Disney movies in comments down below.

  1. Great post! I love a few of the ones you picked, I would probably have put them in a different order. Also, I am one of the weird people who didn’t actually really like the Pirates of the Carabian.

  12. As a certified Disney addict (certified by her 4-year-old cousin that’s a Disney addict herself 😂), I think The Lion King really SHOULD be on every Best Disney Movie list ever, so I’m so glad to see it on here!

I loved it for the characters and the way they developed Simba’s character. He goes from proud to broken to hero – and it’s such a great coming-of-age film.

It reminds me to never get my head too big, to accept trials and failures as they come, and to power on and always do what’s right. ❤️

(Kind of the reason I always want to help people. Because Simba’s story showed me the importance of that!)

Thank you for this list. BRB while I go re-watch every Disney movie ever made 😛
